Republican Congressman Paul Ryan has served as US representative for Wisconsin County's Congressional District 1 since 1999 and chaired the House Ways and Means Committee in January 2015. He was chairman of the House Budget Committee from 2011 to 2015, and is considered an independent voice in his team. In the 2012 presidential election, Ryan was Mitt Romney's vice-president to be elected vice-president, who eventually lost to Democratic Alliance President Barack Obama. Ryan was re-elected to his seat in Congress in 2014 and the following year he was elected speaker of the House, becoming the youngest to run in nearly 150 years.
