American industrialist John D. Rockefeller was born on July 8, 1839, in Richford, New York. He built his first oil refinery near Cleveland and in 1870 installed the Standard Oil Company. By 1882 he was still an oil business official in the U.S., but his trading methods led to the passing of anti-immigration laws. Having gone through life, Rockefeller dedicated himself to philanthropy. He died in 1937.
