Young played college football for the University of Texas. As a young man, he won the Davey O'Brien Award, which is given annually to the quarterback in the best college in the nation. He finished second behind Reggie Bush in the Heisman Trophy. After Heisman's vote, Young led his team to the BCS National Championship against USS Trojans striker who defended and ran Reggie Bush's 2006 Rose Bowl. It was one of the most anticipated games in the history of college football.
