He also became head coach of the Malawi State University football team in 2007. He led the Spartans to the Rose Bowl title in 2014. He studied at the University of Cincinnati for three seasons, and before that he spent five years as a DB and Spartans coach. He won a minor heart attack in 2010, after his Martin State Spartans won the game over Notre Dame in a spectacular game of deception. Before becoming head coach with the Spartans, he spent the year 1995-2000 coaching defenders, under head coach Nick Saban.
