Sven Selånger, a native of Sven Eriksson, competed in the Nordic with ski jumping but also alpine skiing during the second half of the 1930s. His international debut was at the 1928 Winter Olympics in St Moritz. After fifth place in the Nordic ski jump section combined he placed sixth in the overall standings as Sweden leading behind the Norwegian and two Finns. During the 1932 Olympic Games on Lake Placid he also competed in both Nordic and ski jumping. In the Nordic ski jump section came together in third place back in fifth place after the unification race, after four Norwegians. In a ski jump, he was just fourth with medals. At the 1936 Winter Olympics beginning with “Selånger” for the first time, the name he had taken from his homeland, changed his name to the many Erikssons of Sweden. At Garmisch-Partenkirchen he won a silver ski medal, his only one in the Olympics, by 1.5 points behind winner Birger Ruud. Eriksson / Selånger was the Swedish flag bearer at Lake Placid and Garmisch.
