Born in Selkirk in 1934, Walter Elliot spent his youthful life in the Ettrick Valley. After his national service in Northern Ireland, he has spent more than three decades as a wood / fencing contractor, and four years as a Museum Assistant, all in the Border. He worked as a writer, broadcaster and historian. He collected indigenous and oral poetry for the region in The New Minstrelsy of the Scottish Border 1805-2005 (Deerpark, 2006).
He writes poems for Scots, and has published several pamphlets, including A Song for Yarrow (1991).
