Marka Hargitay, best known for her role as NYPD Lieutenant Olivia Benson in the NBC series 'Law & Order: Special Victims Unit', was inspired to help survivors of domestic, sexual and child abuse following a great spiritual encounter with a young dolphin school. After her success as an actress, she founded the Joyful Heart Foundation, which provided support for men and women who were sexually abused. She also raised awareness of the numbers of untested rape kits and campaigned for the re-enactment of the Violence Against Women Act.
