Rapper, actor and music producer Eminem is one of the best-selling artists of the 21st century and is one of the most influential performers of all time. Born Marshall Bruce Mather III in 1972 in Missouri, Eminem had a chaotic child. He dropped out of school in the ninth grade and worked in odd jobs until he eventually became a rapper when the Slim Shady LP was released in early 1999. The album went through several platinum hits, garnering Eminem two Grammy Awards and an MTV Video Music Award.
In 2000, Eminem released The Marshall Mather LP, which is arguably the fastest-selling album in rap history. Two years later, he presented the successful Academy Award-winning song "Lose Yourself," from the semi-autobiographical drama 8 Mile.
In 2010, he released a Grammy-winning debut album, a suicide attempt by many of his own to keep up with his addiction struggles and rehabilitation experiences. The Marshall Mather LP 2 (2013) has also gained a lot of fame, with the rapper later followed by Revival (2017), Kamikaze (2018) and Music to Be Murdered By (2020).
