Actress Penelope Cruz studied classical ballet at a young age, and later moved to Hollywood, California, to pursue a career in acting. She soon placed roles that contradicted the likes of Matt Damon and Tom Cruise. She won the Academy Award - becoming the first Spanish actress to do so - for her role in the film Vicky Christina Barcelona (2008). Croz married former Vicky Cristina Barcelona star, Spanish actress Javier Bardem, in 2010.

The discipline that ballet requires is obsessive. And only the ones who dedicate their whole lives are able to make it. Your toenails fall off and you peel them away and then you're asked to dance again and keep smiling. I wanted to become a professional ballet dancer.

My ambition is to be happy.
