John Steinbeck was a Nobel laureate and Pulitzer Prize winner - found American author and author of Of Mice and Men, The Grapes of Wrath and East of Eden. Steinbeck graduated from college and worked as a craftsman before gaining success as a writer. His activities were often social and economic. His 1939 novel, The Grapes of Wrath, about the family's migration from the Oklahoma Dust Bowl to California, won a Pulitzer Prize and a National Book Award. Steinbeck served as a military journalist during World War II, and was awarded the Nobel Prize for Literature in 1962.
