Henry Adams

Henry Adams (February 16, 1838 - March 27, 1918) graduated from Harvard in 1858, and studied law in Germany. During the civil war he served as ambassador to London (his father). He returned to the United States, where he taught history at Harvard for six years (attempts described as “failure” in his autobiography). After further failures in the world of politics and a number of movements, he settled down to write The Nine Percent of the United States of America (1889-91). While traditional work focuses on political and political controversies, it sets the highest standard for research and literary preservation. Other notable works include The Life of Albert Gallatin (1879) and The Education of Henry Adams (1918).
