He was born in St. Louis. In St. Louis, Missouri, in 1885, Robert Collier trained as a priest at a young age, before settling in the business and gaining success in advertising, publishing, and engineering. After recovering from a chronic illness with the help of psychiatrists, Colfer began studying New Thought, metaphysical, and principles of success. He published these principles in a series of popular and powerful pamphlets, The Secret of the Ages, in 1926. He began publishing a second series of tracts called The Secret of Gold in 1927 and did so the following year under the title The Life Magnet. He died in 1950.
