Steven Anthony "Steve" Ballmer is an American businessman who served as Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Microsoft from January 2000 to February 2014. Prior to becoming a CEO he held a number of senior positions at Microsoft, leading a number of departments including operations. , application development, and sales and sponsorship. He has also served as Executive Vice President, Sales and Support, and President of Microsoft. As a college friend of Bill Gates, the founder of Microsoft, Ballmer was one of the company's first employees. In fact, he was the first business manager hired by Gates. Born into a wealthy family, Steve Ballmer grew up to be an excellent student with extraordinary mathematical skills. He graduated from Harvard College and worked part-time at Procter & Gamble before joining the Stanford Graduate School of Business. He resigned to replace his new friend Bill Gates and continued to enjoy great success at Microsoft. Retired from Microsoft following a good career, Ballmer now focuses on the other side of his passion - basketball - and currently owns the Los Angeles Clippers National Basketball Association (NBA).
