Ricky Ponting is the captain of an Australian cricket team, and is considered one of the best in the game. He has led Australia to two World Cup tournaments and is also their top manager in ODIs and tests. He is the only player to win more than 100 Test matches. 'Punter', as his colleagues and the group call him, was born on December 19, 1974 in Tasmania. He did his first Class A degree in Tasmania when he was 17 years old. Australian wicket keeper, Rod Marsh had seen him play there and saw him ‘leading among the youngsters’. After playing there for three years, Ponting joined the national team.

QUOTES BY Ricky Ponting

"It's a great opportunity for South Australians to get behind this match, the first final we've ever had in Adelaide. I know the South Australian Cricket Association are very keen to make a success of it to prove that the Adelaide Oval is a venue worthy of more international cricket."

"I thought it was an excellent all-round performance tonight. We always try and time our run during these competitions and build our momentum and we're getting better each match."

"There's no room in sport for racism whatsoever. The players are all very aware of that, the crowd needs to be aware of that and enjoy the game for what it is."

"Hopefully, the longer we make him bowl, the more mistakes he'll make,"

"I think listening to him before the game he wanted to be more economical and not go for as many runs which probably meant he wanted to drop his pace,"

"I've got no concerns for those two, ... I love having both those guys in the side and I think they'll be around for a bit longer yet."

"I had a bit of luck, I should have been caught at third slip when I had two but Graeme (Smith) didn't have a third slip. Then I was dropped on 17 and it was a pretty straightforward catch."

"I had a bit of luck early on, obviously. I probably should have been caught at third slip on zero ...but there wasn't one there. I was dropped on a pretty easy chance not long after. It was a bit of luck along the way."

"We're still learning and hopefully we'll learn a bit more tomorrow."
