Virgil's last and most important work is the famous Aeneid poem, in which he endeavors to exemplify what he considered to be a Roman deity. Written in 12 books, the poem is still regarded as a literary masterpiece today, with questions as to whether the poet has shown parallel at state expense. After her death, Virgil's influence continued to inspire other poets through the ages.
