Victor Hugo was a French poet and scholar who, after a career as a lawyer, began a career in art. He became one of the most important French Romantic poets, literary and drama writers of his time, having collected a large amount of great work during his stay in Paris, Brussels and the Channel Islands. Hugo died May 22, 1885, in Paris.
