Charles Robert Darwin was a British environmentalist and biologist who specialized in his theory of evolution and his understanding of the process of evolution. In 1831, he embarked on a five-year voyage around the world to the HMS Beagle, during which time his various plant studies led him to develop his ideas. In 1859, he published his most important work, On the Origin of Species.
