Inspired by the Scripture passage in which Jesus appears to the Eleven and "opened their minds to understand the Scriptures" (Lk 24:45), the Apostolic Letter Aperuit illis of Pope Francis institutes the Sunday of the Word of God on the Third Sunday in Ordinary Time. In so doing, the Pope encourages the regular reading of Sacred Scripture in order to set the hearts of the faithful burning within them (cf. Lk 24:32).
